Compensation Range - $160,000 - $190,000 + Bonus.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Controller is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, responsible for the financial integrity and performance of the Club. This role oversees all accounting operations, day-to-day financial functions, accurate reporting, internal controls, and compliance with applicable laws and regulatory requirements.
The Controller provides financial analysis and insight to support decision-making by the Operations Team, Committees, and the Board of Directors. This position oversees the Business Office, financial systems, and reporting processes, while partnering across the Club to strengthen fiscal discipline and operational performance.
Reports directly to the General Manager, with regular interaction and accountability to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Leadership & Reporting:
- Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management.
- Prepare and present monthly financial statements, variance analysis, and executive reporting.
- Prepare financial reports for the annual meeting and other required presentations.
- Develop and present annual budgets, forecasts, and long-range financial projections.
- Maintain fixed-asset and depreciation schedules.
- Provide timely, decision-ready financial insights to the General Manager, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors.
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard Club assets.
- Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Coordinate and lead external audits, tax filings, and interactions with auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory agencies.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax and reporting requirements.
- Maintain compliant record retention and document management practices.
- Support strategic planning and financial modeling.
Operational Partnerships:
- Partner with department heads to improve financial performance, cost controls, and operational efficiency.
- Support pricing, profitability analysis, and strategic initiatives across all areas of the Club.
- Align financial practices with volunteer committee structure and expectations.
- Manage the Club’s investment program in collaboration with the Finance Committee and external advisors, serving as the primary liaison for all related matters.
- Partner with Finance Committee and the Club’s insurance advisor to help ensure the Club maintains appropriate insurance coverage. Oversee all policy documentation and records, promptly reports potential or active claims, and works with the advisor to reassess coverage as operational changes affect risk exposure.
- Oversee administration of the Club’s 401(k) plan and coordinates with applicable advisors.
Cash & Asset Management:
- Oversee cash flow, vendor relationships, and all financial reconciliations.
- Ensure proper handling, recording, and safeguarding of all funds.
- Monitor capital expenditures and alignment with approved budgets.
- Maintain appropriate reserves and monitor liquidity relative to operating needs.
Systems & Process Improvement:
- Serve as the owner of financial and accounting systems (e.g., Northstar and related platforms.)
- Lead system enhancements and process improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and reporting capabilities.
- Oversee data integrity and security across financial and membership systems.
Team Leadership:
- Recruit, train, and retain high performing staff.
- Lead and develop the accounting team, setting clear expectations and maintaining high standards of performance.
- Foster accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement within the department.
- Promote a service-oriented mindset aligned with club culture.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting/finance leadership experience.
- Experience in hospitality, private clubs, or similar service environments preferred.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, internal controls, and budgeting.
- CPA or CMA preferred
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel skills.
- Strong proficiency with accounting and financial management software.
- Experience with Northstar club management software preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Primarily office-based with occasional off-site meetings.
- Ability to sit for extended periods and use standard office equipment.
- May require occasional extended hours during month-end or year-end close.
NOTES:
This role is expected to operate as a strategic partner to the General Manager and Board, while maintaining strong ownership of day-to-day financial operations. Responsibilities may evolve as the needs of the Club change.
